Durian is not just a fruit, it's a lifestyle.

The durian fruit is commonly referred to as the king of fruits. It has a very distinct smell and taste that can be described as an acquired taste, but Durian lovers swear by it! It is also extremely expensive to buy fresh in the Philippines because of its rarity and hardiness.

Durian is native to Southeast Asia and Malaysia where it has been cultivated for centuries. It grows wild in Indonesia and Thailand, but when cultivated in these areas, farmers tend to cultivate different varieties of durians with different flavors which makes finding a favorite durian much more difficult than finding your favorite type of cheese or beer!

One popular variety of durian is called 'Marauding' which means "to raid" or "to pillage". This variety was named after the Indonesian word for "steal", which refers to its ability to grow wild before being cultivated. When this variety ripens, it will have an extremely strong smell that can make some people nauseous because of its decay-like smell!
